RetainingtheUUID
TheUniversallyUniqueIdentier(UUID)isa128-bitnumberuniquelyassignedtoyourcomputerat
productionandstoredintheEEPROMofyoursystemboard.
ThealgorithmthatgeneratesthenumberisdesignedtoprovideuniqueIDsuntiltheyearA.D.3400.Notwo
computersintheworldhavethesamenumber.
Whenyoureplacethesystemboard,followthefollowingstepstocreatenewUUIDforthesystemboardif
thesystemboarddoesnothaveaUUID:
1.InstallthelatestversionofLENOVOThinkPadHardwareMaintenanceDisketteorMaintenanceKey,
andthenrestartthecomputer.
2.Fromthemainmenu,select4.AssignUUID.AnewUUIDiscreatedandwritten.IfavalidUUIDalready
exists,itisnotoverwritten.
ReadingorwritingtheECAinformation
InformationonEngineeringChangeAnnouncements(ECA)arestoredintheEEPROMofthesystemboard.
TheelectronicstorageofthisinformationsimpliestheproceduretocheckiftheECAhasbeenpreviously
appliedtoamachine.ThemachinedoesnotneedtobedisassembledtocheckfortheECAapplication.
TocheckwhatECAshavebeenpreviouslyappliedtothemachine,usetheECAInformationRead/Write
functionontheLENOVOThinkPadHardwareMaintenanceDisketteorMaintenanceKey.
1.InsertthelatestversionofLENOVOThinkPadHardwareMaintenanceDisketteorMaintenanceKey,
andthenrestartthecomputer.
2.Fromthemainmenu,select6.SetECAInformation.
3.ToreadtheECAinformation,select2.ReadECA/reworknumberfromEEPROMandfollowthe
instructionsonthescreen;Toreadboxbuilddate,select5.ReadboxbuilddatefromEEPROM,and
followtheinstructionsonthescreen.
AfteranECAhasbeenappliedtothemachine,theEEPROMmustbeupdatedtoreecttheECA's
application.UsethelatestversionofLENOVOThinkPadHardwareMaintenanceDisketteorMaintenance
KeytoupdatetheEEPROM.
Note:OnlytheECAnumberisstoredintheEEPROM.ThemachinetypeoftheECAisassumedtobethe
sameasthemachinetypeofthemachinethathadtheECAappliedtoit.
