InstallingaMicrosoftWindows7operatingsystem
ToinstallaMicrosoftWindows7operatingsystem,dothefollowing:
1.Inserttheoperatingsysteminstallationdiscintotheopticaldrivethatyouhavesetasthefirststartup
device.ConnecttheUSBstoragedevicethatcontainsthedriverfortheonboardSATAsoftwareRAID
(orinstalledRAIDcardifyourserverisinstalledwithaRAIDcard)toyourserver.Then,starttheserver
fromtheopticaldrive.
2.IfthemessagePressanykeytobootfromcdisdisplayed,pressanykey.IfthemessageWindowsSetup
[EMSEnabled]isdisplayed,pressEnter.Waitseveralminutesforthesystemtoloadthefiles.
3.IftheWindows7installationwindowisdisplayed,configurethelanguageandotheroptionsasyouneed
andthenclickNext.
4.IftheInstallnowwindowisdisplayed,clickInstallnow.
5.WhentheLoadDriverwindowisdisplayed,browsetothefolderwherethedriverisstored,andclick
OK.The“Selectthedrivertoinstall”windowisdisplayed
6.SelectHidedriversthatarenotcompatiblewithhardwareonthiscomputer.Then,clickNext.
7.Selecttheoperatingsystemthatyouwanttoinstall.Then,clickNext.
8.ReadthelicensetermsandselectIacceptthelicenseterms.Then,clickNext.
9.Ifthe“Whichtypeofinstallationdoyouwant?”windowisdisplayed,selectthetypeofinstallationasyou
need.ThefollowingstepsarebasedonthescenariothatCustom(Advanced)isselectedinthisstep.
10.Inthe“WheredoyouwanttoinstallWindows?”window,clickDriveoptions(advanced).
11.Selecttheharddiskdriveonwhichyouwanttoinstalltheoperatingsystem,andthenclickNew.
12.Typetheamountofspace(inMB),andthenclickApply.
13.WhentheInstallWindowsdialogboxisdisplayed,clickOK➙Next.Theinstallationbegins.
Note:Y ourserverwillrestartseveraltimesduringtheinstallation.
14.Typeyourusernameandpasswordwhenprompted.
Note:Thepasswordmustconsistofuppercaseletters,lowercaseletters,anddigits.
15.Ifthe“TypeyourWindowsproductkey”windowisdisplayed,typeyourproductkey,deselect
AutomaticallyactivateWindowswhenIamonline,andthenclickNext.Theproductkeyinformation
isavailableontheMicrosoftCertificateofAuthenticitylabelorproductpackaging.
16.Ifthe“HelpprotectyourcomputerandimproveWindowsautomatically”windowisdisplayed,clickAsk
melater.
17.Whenthe“Reviewyourtimeanddatesettings”windowisdisplayed,clickNext.
18.Followtheinstructionsonthescreentologintotheoperatingsystem.
Installingthedriverforthechipset
Toinstallthedriverforthechipset,dothefollowing:
1.DownloadthedriverforthechipsetfromtheLenovoSupportWebsitetoyourserver.Ifthedriverisa
compressedfile,unzipittoafolder.Themostup-to-datedevicedriversforvariousservermodelsare
alwaysavailableontheLenovoSupportWebsiteat:
http://www.lenovo.com/drivers
2.Openthefolderthatcontainsthedriveranddouble-clicktheSetupfile.The“WelcometotheSetup
Program”windowisdisplayed.
