Before removing the top cover:
1. Read the safety information and installation guidelines (see “Safety” on page iii and “Installation
Guidelines” on page 59).
2. Turn off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables (see
“Power off the server” on page 10).
3. If the server is installed in a rack, remove the server from the rack.
4. Remove the top cover (see “Remove the top cover” on page 146).
To remove the top cover, complete the following steps:

Step 1. Unlock the cover release latch with a flat-end screwdriver.

Step 2. Press and hold on the blue tab of cover release latch; then, rotate the tip of the latch up.
Step 3. Push the latch forward to slide the top cover away from the server.
