Step 1. Install the processor if one is not yet installed (see “Install the processor ” on page 185).
Step 2. Align the four screws on the heat sink and fan assembly with the corresponding screw holes on the
system board.
Note: Make sure that the “Front” label is facing the front of the server.
Step 3. Install the heat sink and fan module.

a. & Tighten screw 1 and 2: First, partially tighten screw 1; then, fully tighten screw 2. Finally,
fully tighten screw 1.

& Tighten screw 3 and 4: First, partially tighten screw 3; then, fully tighten screw 4. Finally,
fully tighten screw 3.
Step 4. Connect the fan power cable to the Fan 2 connector on the system board. See “System-board
components” on page 27 and “Fan power cable” on page 63
After this task is completed
Complete the parts replacement. See “Complete the parts replacement” on page 217.
