Accessing the Boom and Hoists
Use the maintenance platform (1, Figure 3-16) to access the
top of the superstructure, including the boom and main and
auxiliary hoists. The maintenance platform is located on the
left side of the crane superstructure. The platform ladder
must be stowed prior to travel.
Deploying the Platform Ladder
1. Remove pins (2) and lower the ladder (3). Install pins (2)
to secure the deployed ladder (3).
2. Remove pins (4) and extend the ladder (3). Install pins
(4) to secure the extended ladder (3).
Stowing the Platform Ladder
1. Remove pins and retract the ladder. Install pins to
secure the retracted ladder.
2. Remove pins and raise the ladder. Install pins to secure
the ladder in stowed position.
Equipment Checks
Prior to placing the unit in operation each day/shift, do a
complete walk-around visual inspection and look for
structural damage, loose components, leaks, or other
conditions that requires immediate correction for safe
operation. The following checklist of items are suggested to
ensure the crane is prepared for performing work operations.
Check:
For any unusual conditions such as pools of hydraulic
fluid or lubricating oil under the chassis, any outrigger
which may have crept down or up and any signs of
damage or improper maintenance.
The tires are inflated to the proper pressure.
The level of the hydraulic reservoir oil.
The operation of the “E-stop” and horn circuits.
For missing and loose bolts.
For damaged structural members and welds.
All rope guides and rope keepers.
All sheaves for free turning.
The hoist rope for kinks, broken strands or other
damage in accordance with instructions under the
section Hoist Rope Inspection And Maintenance, page
6-3.
DANGER
Fall Hazard!
Ensure the steps are deployed and secured before
entering the hoist maintenance platform. Failure to do so
could result in death or serious injury.
CAUTION
Machine Damage!
Stow and secure the steps before driving. When the steps
are deployed, damage could occur during on-road
operation.
