Comet Executive Gas Operating Principles

Burner System
The following provides a brief summary of
each component identied in Figure 5-7.
Gas Valve with Regulator (A)
Allows gas to ow to the burner. Normally
closed gas valve is opened by a signal from the
ignition control. This valve supplies both the pilot
and burner gas.
In case of a failure within the heating system,
the burner gas valve is closed. Gas does not
continue to enter the burner when there is no
ame.
Ignition Control (B)
Controls gas system operation. Responds to
a heat signal from the TEMPERATURE control
and provides a high-voltage spark to the ignition
electrode.
It also monitors to make sure a ame has been
safely established.
High Limit Control (C)
Responds to an over-limit condition in the
ironing cylinder by opening up and preventing
further gas system operation until the cylinder
has suciently cooled and it has been manually
reset. See also Temperature Sensor Contact
Shoes on page 5-10.
Gas Shut-O Valve (D)
Shuts o the gas supply to the burner.
Gas Burner (E)
Uses gas and atmospheric air to provide ames
along the length of the cylinder. After the pilot
gas burner ame has been proven by the ame
sensor, the burner lights.
Pilot Gas Orice (F)
Provides a precisely controlled gas ow for
a the pilot ame. The pilot ame stays on when
the burner is lit.
Ignition Electrode (G)
Powered by the ignition control, provides a
high voltage spark inside the pilot burner to ignite
the incoming gas.
Flame Sensor (H)
Powered by the ignition control, proves the
pilot gas burner ame.
