Shut-down
DANGER!
A rotating chipper drum may cause entanglement, crush, or
mutilation of body parts resulting in serious injury or death.
Always wait for the chipper drum to completely stop after
shutting the machine OFF and before opening the chipper
hood.
Foreign material such as stones, wire, or metal will cause
blade failure causing serious injury. Do not sweep or rake
the work site and put this material into the chipper.
NOTE
To keep the machine free of vandalism, always lock and secure
the machine using the lockout procedure.
Machine Shut-down
1. Place the safety control bar into the stop position.
2. Place the throttle switch to the throttle down mode.
3. When the engine has reached an idle, disengage the clutch.
4. Turn the ignition off.
5. Fires can start after engine shut-down therefore, the operator should
watch and check the equipment for 15-20 minutes after shut-down to
ensure the machine is completely cooled.
Lock-up
After the machine is shut-down it is important for safety and security reasons
to follow the lock-out procedure in the Safety section, page 1.7. The
following components must be locked at the end of each work period:
• Engine control panel
• Battery box
• Tool box
If you are towing the machine, be sure the hitch is properly secured to the
towing vehicle and that the taillights are working. If you are not towing the
machine, it’s best to remove the battery and any other essential electrical
components and store them off site.
Clean-up
When cleaning the work site, never attempt to feed handfuls of twigs, leaves,
and other material that have been raked up. It is impossible to feed it into the
chipper without violating all safety rules or damaging the machine. Place all
small brush in the chipper pile after the chipping process is complete.
Be sure the infeed is clear of all debris before transporting the machine.
Loose debris, especially large pieces, in the infeed can dislodge and cause
damage to vehicles behind the towed chipper.
