Chipper Flange Bearing
The chipper flange bearings support the chipper drum shaft and should be
greased according to the maintenance schedule.
Before performing maintenance on the chipper bearings:
1. Follow steps in Safety Section to shut-down the machine.
2. Inspect the chipper drum shaft. Ensure that it is smooth, free of any nicks
or cuts, straight, and clean.
3. Inspect the flange bearing for contamination.
4. Protect the flange bearing from exposure to dirt or moisture.
To Maintain the Bearings:
1. Slide the flange bearings onto the drum shaft (both sides).
2. Place the drum into the base until the tapped holes in the base align with
the holes in the flange bearings. Start all bolts on both bearings before
tightening.
3. Using a pry bar force the drum towards the drive side of the base.
4. With a marking stick against the shaft on the outside of the bearing,
rotate drum and mark the location on the shaft.
5. With the pry bar move the drum to the opposite side of the base.
6. Note of the distance between the two points and move the drum back
the other way half the distance.
7. Install the lock collars onto the drum shaft both sides.
8. Tighten the lock collars onto the flange bearing by driving them in the
direction the drum is turning (counter clockwise).
9. Remove the allen head screws and drill the shaft enough to seat the
screws into the shaft (about 1/8 inch), apply Loc-tite to the allen head
screws and tighten.
WARNING!
Performing maintenance with the power source ON may
result in unexpected operation of the machine and may
cause serious injury or death. Turn OFF and lock out the
power source before servicing.
