Questions and Answers

Why is there low heat or low flame on my Napoleon Grill when the valve is on high?
    • K
      Keith DavisJul 26, 2025
The low heat or flame could be due to several reasons. If you are using propane, ensure you are following the correct lighting procedure, with all gas grill valves off when the tank valve is turned on, and that you turn the tank on slowly to allow pressure to equalize. Refer to the lighting instructions. If you are using natural gas, the supply line might be undersized; the pipe must be sized according to the installation code. For both types of gas, improper preheating could be the cause. Preheat the grill with both main burners on high for 10 to 15 minutes.

What to do if my Napoleon LD485RB Grill has excessive flare-ups or uneven heat?
    • S
      sue27Jul 30, 2025
Excessive flare-ups and uneven heat can occur if the sear plates are installed incorrectly. Make sure sear plates are installed with the holes towards the front and the slots on the bottom, referring to the assembly instructions. Improper preheating can also cause this issue; preheat the grill with both main burners on high for 10 to 15 minutes. Lastly, excessive grease and ash build-up on the sear plates and in the drip pan can be a factor. Clean the sear plates and drip pan regularly, and do not line the pan with aluminum foil. Refer to the cleaning instructions.

What to do if the infrared burner on my Napoleon LD485RB flashes back?
    • M
      Mr. Zachary MckinneyAug 3, 2025
If the infrared burner flashes back, turn it off and allow it to cool for at least two minutes. Relight the burner and let it burn on high for at least five minutes, or until the ceramic tiles are evenly glowing red. Ensure that no more than 75% of the grill surface is covered by objects or accessories. If the issue persists, turn the burner off, let it cool, and inspect it closely for cracks. If you find any cracks, contact your authorized Napoleon dealer to order a replacement burner assembly. The flashback can be caused by ceramic tiles overloaded with grease drippings and build-up, clogged ports, overheating due to inadequate ventilation or a cracked ceramic tile. It could also be caused by a leaking gasket surrounding the ceramic tile, or a weld failure in the burner housing.

Why is the 'paint' peeling inside the lid of my Napoleon LD485RB?
    • K
      Kimberly JeffersonAug 7, 2025
The peeling you see is not a defect. The finish on the lid and hood is porcelain and will not peel. The peeling is caused by hardened grease, which dries into paint-like shards that flake off. Regular cleaning will prevent this. See the cleaning instructions.

Why do the burners on my Napoleon LD485RB Grill burn with a yellow flame and smell of gas?
    • M
      martindanielleAug 12, 2025
A yellow flame accompanied by the smell of gas may be due to a spider web or other debris in the burner, or an improper air shutter adjustment. Thoroughly clean the burner by removing it.
  • D
    Debra TateAug 16, 2025
What to do if flames lift away from burner on my Napoleon LD485RB?
    • G
      Gloria PattersonAug 16, 2025
If flames lift away from the burner, accompanied by the smell of gas, and you're experiencing lighting difficulties, it may be due to improper air shutter adjustment. Close the air shutter slightly according to the combustion air adjustment instructions. This adjustment must be done by a qualified gas installer.
  • Q
    qbraunAug 21, 2025
Why won't the burners cross light each other on my Napoleon LD485RB?
    • T
      Tony BentonAug 21, 2025
If the burners will not cross light each other, it may be due to plugged ports at the back of the burner. Clean the burner ports, referring to the burner maintenance instructions.
