  If the rear and side burners on your Napoleon Grill will not light with the igniter but will light with a match, replace the battery with a heavy-duty premium battery or make sure it is installed correctly. Check that the electrode wire is firmly pushed onto the terminal on the back of the igniter. Also, check that the lead wires from the module to the ignition switch (if equipped) are firmly pushed onto their respective terminals.

  If the illumination and side/rear burner ignition work fine but you can’t ignite the side or rear burner even when sparking noise occurs on your Napoleon Grill, adjust the gap between the two prongs of the side burner electrode when the side burner doesn’t ignite. Adjust the gap between the electrode and the rear burner when the rear burner doesn’t ignite.

  If your Napoleon Grill has low heat or a low flame when the valve is turned to high, ensure that the lighting procedure is carefully followed. All gas grill valves must be in the off position when the tank valve is turned on. Turn the tank on slowly to allow pressure to equalize. For natural gas, the supply line might be undersized, so the pipe must be sized according to installation code. For both propane and natural gas grills, preheat the grill with both main burners on high for 10 to 15 minutes.

  If the infrared burner on your Napoleon Grill flashes back, it could be due to ceramic tiles overloaded with grease drippings and build-up, clogged ports, overheating due to inadequate ventilation, a cracked ceramic tile, or a leaking gasket surrounding the ceramic tile, or a weld failure in the burner housing. Turn the burner off and allow it to cool for at least two minutes. Relight the burner and burn on high for at least five minutes or until the ceramic tiles are evenly glowing red. Make sure that no more than 75% of the grill surface is covered by objects or accessories. If you find any cracks after the burner cools, contact your authorized Napoleon dealer to order a replacement burner assembly.
