Undernormaloperatingconditions
thewatertemperaturegaugeshould
registerbetween165°and205°F(74°
and90°C).Undercertainconditions,
somewhathighertemperaturesmay
beacceptable.Butthemaximum
allowabletemperatureis210°F(99°C)
withthecoolingsystempressurized,
exceptforcertainspecialengines.
Checkyourenginemanualtobesure.
EngineOverheating
WARNING!
Donotremovetheradiatorllcap
whiletheengineishot.Scalding
steamanduidunderpressuremay
escapeandcauseseriouspersonal
injuries.Youcouldbebadlyburned.
Waituntilthecoolant
temperatureisbelow122°F
(50°C).
Protectface,hands,andarms
bycoveringthecapwithalarge,
thickragtoprotectagainst
escapinguidandsteam.
Carefullyandslowlyturnthe
capone-quarterofaturnor
untilitreachestherststop—
allowingexcesspressureto
escape—pushdownandturnfor
nalremoval.
Waituntilthecoolanttemperatureis
below122°F(50°C).Protectyour
face,hands,andarmsbycoveringthe
capwithalarge,thickragtoprotect
youagainstescapinguidandsteam.
Beforeyoucompletelyremovethe
cap,carefullyandslowlyturnthecap
partwaytoallowexcesspressureto
escape.Thenpushdownandturnfor
nalremoval.
Thecoolingsystemmayoverheatif
thecoolantlevelisbelownormalorif
thereisasuddenlossofcoolant(such
asawornhosesplitting).Itmayalso
temporarilyoverheatduringsevere
operatingconditionssuchasclimbing
alonghillonahotdayorstopping
afterhigh-speeddriving.
Ifthe"EngineCoolantTemperature"
warninglightcomeson,oryouhave
anyotherreasontosuspecttheengine
maybeoverheating:
Stopthevehicle,butDONOT
