VisualInspection
Forallvehicles,mandatory
maintenanceproceduresinclude
retighteningofU-boltsandcomplete
inspection.However,evenwithproper
maintenance,manyfactorsaffectthe
servicelifeofspringsandsuspension
components,suchas:fatigue,vehicle
grossweight,typeofload,road
conditionsandvehiclespeed.
ItisimportantthatU-boltsremaintight.
Severeuseofyourvehiclecancause
themtoloosenfaster.Butallvehicles
needtohavetheirU-boltscheckedand
tightenedregularly.Besuresomeone
withthepropertrainingandtheright
toolschecksandtightenstheU-bolts
onyourvehicle.
•Aftertherst500miles(800km)of
operation,inspectthesuspension
periodically,asnotedbelow:
•Visuallycheckforlooseormissing
fasteners,cracksinhangeroraxle
connectionbrackets.
•Checkthatspringsarecenteredin
hangersandingoodcondition.
•Checkforcracks,wearmarks,
splits,orotherdefectsonthe
surfaceofthespring.
•Replacedefectiveparts.Because
repairedspringscannotbe
fullyrestoredtotheiroriginal
servicelife,replacethecomplete
assemblyifcracksorotherdefects
aredetected.
•Afterreplacementofanypartor
discoveryofloosecomponents,
checkthetorqueofallfasteners.
•Newspringssettle-inafterthe
vehicle'sinitialservice,causing
theU-boltstobecomeloose.
