runningtheenginewhileparked
orstoppedforprolongedperiods
oftimeisnotrecommended.
Ifothervehiclesareparkednext
toyouidling,moveyourvehicle
ordonotstayinyourvehiclefor
prolongedperiodsoftime.
IdlingtheEngine
Undermostcircumstances,idling
yourengineforlongperiodsmerely
wastesfuel.Inseverearcticweather
conditions,however,youmayneed
longeridlingtobesureallpartsofyour
enginearefullylubricated.
WARNING!
Toreducethechanceofdeathor
personalinjuryand/orvehicledam-
agefromoverheatedengines,which
canresultinare,neverleavethe
engineidlingwithoutanalertdriver
present.Iftheengineshouldover-
heat,asindicatedbytheengine
coolanttemperaturelight,immedi-
ateactionisrequiredtocorrectthe
condition.Continuedunattended
operationoftheengine,evenfor
ashorttime,mayresultinserious
enginedamageorare.
CAUTION
Donotallowyourenginetoidle,
atlowrpms(400–600rpm),longer
thanveminutes.Longperi-
odsofidlingaftertheenginehas
reachedoperatingtemperatures
candecreaseenginetemperature
andcausegummedpistonrings,
cloggedinjectors,andpossibleen-
ginedamagefromlackoflubrica-
tion.Thenormaltorsionalvibrations
generatedcanalsocausetransmis-
sionwear.
