ElectronicStabilityControl(ESC).ESC
isafeatureforABS-equippedvehicles
thatreducestheriskofrollovers,
jackkningandotherlossofcontrol
situations.ESCfeaturesincludeRoll
StabilityProgram(RSP)andYaw
Control.
Duringoperation,theECUofthe
ESCsystemconstantlycompares
performancemodelstothevehicle’s
actualmovement,usingthewheel
speedsensorsoftheABSsystem,
aswellaslateral,yaw,andsteering
anglesensors.Ifthevehicleshowsa
tendencytoleaveanappropriatetravel
path,orifcriticalthresholdvaluesare
approached,thesystemwillintervene
toassistthedriver.
RollStabilityProgram
RSP ,anelementoftheoverallESC
system,addressesrolloverconditions.
Inthecaseofapotentialrollevent,
theECUwilloverridethethrottle
andquicklyapplybrakepressureat
allwheelendstoslowthevehicle
combination.Thelevelofbraking
applicationduringanRSPeventwill
beproportionaltorollrisk.
ARealWorldExampleofHowthe
RSPSystemOperates
Excessivespeedforroadconditions
createsforcesthatexceedthe
thresholdatwhichavehicleislikelyto
rolloveronahigher-frictionsurface.
Thesystemautomaticallyreduces
enginetorqueandappliestheservice
brakes(basedontheprojectedrollover
risk)toreducethevehiclespeed,
therebyreducingthetendencytoroll
over.
