Thesearedescribedinthefollowingsubsections.Notethatthesettingsofthecontrolpanelaswellastheposi-
tionofthecontrolpanelonthescreenwillbestoredintheregistryandretrievedatthenextprogramstart.When
youloadaMultiHarpdatafilethesettingsofthecontrolpanelwillchangeaccordingtothesettingsinthatfile.
Thiscanbeusedasameansofrevertingtoastandardsettingforthegivenexperiment.

HerethetriggerlevelfortheSyncinputcanbeset.Unitsaremillivolts(mV),thepermittedrangeis-1200to

Sync Offset editboxandspincontrol
ShiftstherelativetimingofSyncandphotoneventsandisdesignedtocompensateopticalandelectricaldelays
(duetodifferencesincablelengthsandopticalpaths),e.g.,inordertoshiftyourfluorescencedecaywithinthe
syncframesothatitisnottruncated.Thisfeaturecompletelyeliminatestheneedforadjustabledelayboxes.
Unitsarepicoseconds(ps),thepermittedrangeisfrom−99,999to+99,999ps.Typethevalueasanintegerin
theeditboxandpress<Enter>orclickonApply.Theoffsetvaluecanbeenteredinstepsofpicosecondsbut
notethattheactualstepisonetimebinaccordingtotheinstrument’sbaseresolution(5,10or80psdependent
onthemodel).Alternatively,usethespincontrolnexttotheeditboxtoincrement⁄decrementthecurrentvalue.

Tdeadisaprogrammabledeadtimeforsuppressionofafterpulsingartefactsofsomedetectors.Onthesyncin-
putitisrarelyneeded.Leaveitat0ifyouworkwithasyncsignalfromalaser.
Unitsarenanoseconds(ns),thepermittedrangeisfrom0to160ns.NotethatTdead=0doesnotreallymean
zerodeadtime,instead,theinputwillthenoperateatitsshortest(native)deadtimeofabout650ps.Whena
deadtime>0issetthenthetiminghardwarewillsuppresseventsfallingintothedeadtime.Thisisonlyasup-
pressionoffurtherprocessinganddoesnotpreventtheTDCtogointoanother(native)deadtime.
