Starter System Test Flow Chart
Condition: Starter fails to turn motor. NOTE: Make sure engine crankshaft is free to turn before proceeding with dynamic testing
of starter system. A digital multitester must be used for this test.
NOTE: The footbrake must be compressed to the starter circuit to engage.
With the tester on the VDC position, place the tes-
ter’s black lead on the battery negative and the red
lead on the battery positive.
Reading should be 12.4 or greater.
Disconnect the White/Red and Orange coil engage-
ment wires from the starter solenoid. Connect black
tester wire to battery ground. Connect red tester
switch as if starting the vehicle. Tester should read

Install fully charged shop battery to
continue test.

Locate the brake pressure switch near the steering
gearbox along the frame member. The switch is
installed in a junction block. Perform the “Brake
Light Switch Test” on Page 10.5.
Test all wiring for the brake pressure switch. If test
is ok go back to the original troubleshooting
