Best practices
Whenever used, shielded cable must be grounded at one end only. Multiple shielded segments must have their shields tied
togetherateveryjunction,butstillonlygroundedatoneend.
Prolonrecommendsusingnewwiringonlythroughoutproject,asexistingeldwiringmaynotperformasneeded.
Prolon controllers use readily available HVAC industry standard wiring for its connections. Some care must be taken
however in choosing the proper wire for the application.
• Passive temperature sensors: Twisted & shielded con-
trol wire, typically #18 gauge.
• Communication network: Twisted & shielded, low-
capacitance RS-485 network approved cable. Typically,
#22 gauge*. Maximum network segment length: 1000m
(3250ft).
Cabling
• Power supply / control outputs: LVT low voltage control
cable, #18 gauge or bigger, depending on load.
• Communicating wall sensors (T200/T500/T1000): One
pair each of power and communication cables, -or- a
single twisted & shielded #20 or #22 gauge 4-conductor
cable.
