Installation Instructions for VMware ESX 3.5
The VMware ESX 3.5 console does not support Xwindows, which is required to
display Graphical User Interface (GUI) applications on UNIX platforms.
You can manage QLogic FC adapters from the SANsurfer FC HBA Manager
application installed on a Windows system. The FC HBA Manager on Windows
can connect remotely to the qlremote running on the ESX server and manage
adapters on the ESX server.
To prepare your servers to manage the FC adapters remotely:
1. Install the FC HBA Manager on the ESX server using the following CLI
command in silent mode:
sh ./standalone_sansurfer5.0.1bxx_linux_install.bin –i
silent –DSILENT_INSTALL_SET=”QMSJ_G_LA_x86”
where xx is the build number.
2. Start the portmap service on the ESX server. For example, enter the
following command:
/sbin/portmap
3. Start qlremote on the ESX server. For example, enter the following
command:
/usr/local/bin/qlremote
4. On a Windows server, install the SANsurfer FC HBA Manager (Windows
5.0.1bxx) client, as described for Windows installations. (See “Initial
Installation” on page 4-1.)
5. Start the FC HBA Manager on the Windows system and connect to the
remote VMware ESX server. (See “Starting SANsurfer FC HBA Manager on
Windows” on page 5-2.)
NOTE:
For supported Windows servers, see “Software Requirements” on
page 3-2.
