13.3Transducercleaning
Growthcancollectonthebottomofthetransducer,thiscan
reduceperformance.T opreventthebuildupofseagrowth,coat
thetransducerwithathinlayerofwaterbasedantifoulingpaint,
availablefromyourlocalmarinedealer.Reapplypaintevery6
monthsoratthebeginningofeachboatingseason.Certain
smarttransducershaverestrictionsonwhereantifoulingpaintis
applied.Pleaseconsultyourdealer.
Note:Transducerswithatemperaturesensormaynotwork
properlyifpainted.
Note:Neveruseketonebasedpaint.Ketonescanattack
manyplasticspossiblydamagingthesensor.
Note:Neverusespraypaintonyourtransducer.Spraying
incorporatestinyairbubbles,andamarinetransducercannot
transmitproperlythroughair.
Useasoftclothandmildhouseholddetergenttocleanthe
transducer.Ifthefoulingissevere,removethegrowthwitha
greenscotchbrite
TM
pad.Becarefultoavoidscratchingthe
transducersface.
Ifyourtransducerhasapaddlewheelyoucanwetsandwith
negradewet/drypaper.
Note:Harshcleaningsolventssuchasacetonemaydamage
thetransducer.
