What does it mean if the LED on Renishaw ATOM readhead appears white with flashes of other colours?
    • M
      Matthew DiazSep 18, 2025
If the LED appears white with flashes of other colors as the readhead moves, it indicates that the AGC is on and the signal level is below 70%. To address this, first check that the readhead optical window and scale are clean. If the issue persists, restore factory defaults, ensure the LED is green along the full axis, and realign the readhead if it's not green.

What to do if I cannot initiate the calibration routine on Renishaw ATOM?
    • J
      Joshua HendersonAug 25, 2025
If you cannot initiate the calibration routine, and you're not using an interface with a CAL button, ensure the correct pin is being shorted to 0 V for less than 2 seconds. Also, verify that the signal size is greater than 70% before starting the calibration.

Why is the LED on my Renishaw ATOM Media Converter readhead Red and how can I get a Green LED?
    • M
      mburtonAug 26, 2025
The LED on the Renishaw Media Converter readhead might be red because the signal strength is less than 50%. To fix this: * Check that the readhead optical window and scale are clean and free from contamination. * Check the scale and readhead orientation. * Ensure that the readhead variant is the correct type for the chosen scale.

What to do if the LED on Renishaw Media Converter readhead is Blank?
    • D
      Dalton JohnstonAug 27, 2025
If the LED on your Renishaw Media Converter readhead is blank, it indicates a power issue. Ensure 5 V is supplied to the readhead. For cable variants, verify the correct wiring of the connector, noting that analogue and digital systems have different pin-outs. If you're using Ti, Ri, or cabled ACi interfaces, check that the interboard connector is properly seated and in the correct orientation. For FPC variants, confirm correct insertion and orientation of the FPC cable.

Why does the Renishaw ATOM readhead LED remain single flashing blue?
    • R
      russelltorresSep 22, 2025
If the LED remains single flashing blue even after moving it along the full axis length, it means the system failed to calibrate the incremental signals due to signal strength being less than 70% before calibration. Exit CAL mode, restore factory defaults, check the system setup, and realign the readhead to obtain a green LED along the full axis before recalibrating.

Why am I getting multiple reference marks output from my Renishaw ATOM Media Converter?
    • L
      Lawrence HerringSep 23, 2025
Multiple reference mark outputs usually mean that unused reference marks haven't been deselected or the FPC is damaged. Deselect all unused reference marks, as only the calibrated reference mark will be repeatable. Check the alignment of deselection stickers and replace a damaged FPC if applicable.

Why am I unable to get a green LED around a complete rotation on my Renishaw Media Converter?
    • W
      William HamiltonSep 9, 2025
If you are unable to get a green LED around a complete rotation, it indicates that the system run-out is not within specification. Check that the readhead variant is the correct type for the chosen disc (see the ATOM ™ miniature encoder system data sheet (Renishaw part no. L-9517-9563) for details of readhead configuration). Use a DTi gauge to check that the run-out is within specifications. Restore factory defaults. Realign the readhead to obtain a green LED at the mid-point of the run-out. Recalibrate the system. For 20 µm systems, a green or orange readhead set-up LED is acceptable around the full axis of rotation. However, the system must be calibrated over an area of scale with a green LED.

How to troubleshoot a blank LED on a Renishaw ATOM Media Converter readhead?
    • K
      Kelly GallagherSep 12, 2025
If the LED on the readhead is blank, it indicates that there is no power to the readhead. Ensure 5 V are supplied at the readhead. For cable variants, check the correct wiring of the connector, noting that analogue and digital systems have different pin-outs. When using Ti, Ri, or cabled ACi interfaces, check that the interboard connector is properly seated and oriented correctly. For FPC variants, check correct insertion and orientation of the FPC cable.

Why is the LED on the Renishaw ATOM readhead remaining single flashing Blue even after moving it along the full axis length?
    • B
      Brittany BerrySep 3, 2025
The LED on the Renishaw Media Converter readhead remains single flashing blue because the system failed to calibrate the incremental signals due to the signal strength being less than 70% before the calibration routine was initiated. Exit CAL mode.

How to resolve non-repeatable reference mark on Renishaw Media Converter?
    • M
      Michele PatelSep 1, 2025
The reference mark may not be repeatable because only the chosen reference mark that has been used in the calibration sequence is repeatable; other reference marks may not be phased. Ensure you are using the reference mark that has been calibrated for referencing your system. The readhead bracket must be stable and not allow any mechanical movement of the readhead. Check any unused reference marks have been deselected. Clean the scale and readhead optical window and check for damage, then recalibrate the system over the chosen reference mark.
