The “KMSR” Rhoss Multichiller sequencer manages the start-up and
shutdown of the cooling units and/or heat pumps serving an HVAC sy-
stem. A maximum of 10 units can by connected hydraulically in parallel
and controlled by the sequencer.
The electric panel has been designed and manufactured in compliance
with European Standard EN 60204-1 (Safety of machinery. Electrical
equipment of machines. Part 1: general requirements) in keeping with
§1.5.1 of the Machinery Directive. Each unit is equipped with a type "b"
general power supply isolator (EN 60204-1 § 5.3.2).
Only qualied personnel may be allowed access to the electrical parts of
the appliance in compliance with IEC recommendations. It is particularly
important to disconnect all electrical power circuits and then the general
isolator before carrying out any work on the appliance.
The user interface allows the user to select the management mode
for the connected units according to the type of units involved and the
energy saving philosophy considered.
 Full Load Unit Manager: the units are turned on in sequence
depending on the cooling capacity required and only after each indivi-
dual chiller has been brought to full-load operation. The units are activa-
ted in FIFO mode. In this mode each individual unit works at maximum
load: an ideal conguration, for example, in the chillers equipped with
semihermetic screw compressors in which the maximum efciency is
obtained in this condition
 Part Load Unit Manager: the units are turned on simulta-
neously so as to provide the cooling capacity required as the sum of
the single cooling capacities of the connected units. In this mode each
unit works at partial load: an ideal condition, for example, in the chillers
equipped with scroll-type hermetic compressors in which the circuits
are fractional due to the multiple steps.
By means of a serial connection, the “KMSR” Rhoss Multichiller Se-
quencer manages the chillers connected to one another through an
RS485 card. The units can be controlled directly by the KMSR sequen-
cer on site, or by BMS management:
