The best
setting
will
generally
be
found half-way
benreen
the two settings on which
the
speed drop
was noticed.
To facilitate
the
idling
setting on engines having'several
carburetors where it is
important
that they are evenly adjusted, it is
possible
to
connect
a
pressure
gauge (in
the
simplest case a
"U-tube
pressure gauge
")
to
a nipple below the
throttle valve shaft
bearing
point
which
is normally closed
off by
screw
(51).
To
select the idling
speed,
the idling
screw
(45)
is in
this
case adjusted
until the same vacuum is indicated
for
all
carburetors.
By
slightly opening
the throttle
valve via
a
turning
handle
or the
thronle
leveritis
alsopossible toadjustBowden cables
orlinkages evenly
bymaking
this
vacuum
comparison.

Starting carburetor
BING
constant
depression
carburetor
is
provided
with a rotary valve
starting
carburetor
as an aid for
starting a
cold
engine, using a
Bowden
cable. A
disk
(30)
resring
against
the carburetor
housing is
turned via
a shaft
in
the starting
carburetor
housing
(29)
so that
the
starting
carburetor chamber into which
air enters from
the
air filter side
of the carburetor
is
connected
to the
engine
side
of
the
carburctor
via
a duct.
The
air
passage
in
the disk
(30)
is shaped
in such a way
that depending on
the disk
position,
more,-ol less
air
is
drawn
in.
At the same
time the disk opens the fuel
sysrem
of the
staq_fing carburetor
via
bores
matched
to the disk
position.
The fuel
flows from
the,float,charnber
through
the starting
jet
into
the vented starting
chamber
also
contained in
the float,chamber

and
from
there through a riser where
it is
pre-.
mixed
with
air
via
transverse bores,
into
the starting carburetor. There
it forms
a
paniqdqry
rich
mixture with the air
drawn
in,
and this mixture
bypasses
the main
carburetor,
to
flow into
the
intake manifold
of
the
engine directly.
Duringstinting
the throttle
valve has
to be closed to make sufficient vacuum
available
for
the$ar,tingcerb'ruetor. When
the engine
is
at a standstill
and also during normal
operation the fuel level in
the
float
chambercompartment
inco{porating
the
riser
will
be
$esame.asin,therestof
thefloatchamber. When startingwith opened-up
starting
carbur-etor,.thd'fuel

be
drawn
in from
this compartment
which forms
a
very rich
mixture. The fuel
supplied
subsequently
will only be
the amount
allowed
through by
the starting
jet
(f6).
This
ensures that, once
the engine
has
started, it is
not
supplied
with
an,excessively
rich mixture
and stalls. The
starting
carburetor
is
therefore
matched,
to,.a4y,
grven
engine by
modifying
the starting
jet
(16)
and
matching
the space
behiqd
it.
The
starting
carburetor
is
secured to the carburetor
housing
by
fourscrews
(33)
and
protected
against
ingress
of dirt and water
by
the
gasket
(32)
between
the two.
The
starting
shaft
is
also sealed against the starting carburetor housing by
a
rubber
ring
(3r1.
