4 Key Operations
4.1 Key operation of FPD

3. Detector ON
When the control of the FPD detector is set to [Off] on the FPD detector screen, place the cursor
on the [Off] position and set the detector control to [On] using right/left cursor keys.
4. Igniting the FPD
1) Before igniting the FPD detector, confirm that the detector gas is supplied.
2) Confirm that the FPD detector is set to [On].
3) Confirm that each APC flow controller of H2 and AIR is set to [On] and appropriate value is set
to each flow rate.
4) Press the [ignite] key of the RF menu. A message saying Ignition started appears at the
lower left on the screen.
5) When ignition operation completes correctly, a message saying Ignition finished appears at
the lower left on the screen. The flame section on the DET screen changes to [On] and
ignition ends.
Also, the picture display of the hydrogen flame of the FPD detector on the [MONIT] screen
changes from the dotted line to white in black background.

6) When ignition fails, ignition operation is performed again. On this occasion, a message saying
Ignition is retried appears at the lower left on the screen. Re-ignition operation is performed
for six times. If ignition fails in six times, a message saying
DET #4 Ignition failed and ignition
operation ends.
When the above error message is displayed, refer to 6.1 Troubleshooting”.
During the use of FPD, the baseline may fluctuate periodically in spite that the hydrogen flame
has been ignited correctly. Water drops adhering to the exhaust ventilation may be the cause. In
such a case, stop the detector according to
3.16 Stopping the Detector, remove the head, and
purge the ventilation unit sufficiently with appropriate gas to eliminate water drops, and then
perform ignition again.
 CAUTION
To prevent deterioration of photomultiplier, turn OFF the power before
dismounting the head.
