Do you have a question about the Sicma CS/085 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The device is a Tiller CS, a medium fixed tiller manufactured by SICMA S.p.A., an Italian company with over 40 years of experience in agricultural machinery. This user and maintenance manual covers models /085, /105, /125, /135, /145, /165, and /185, indicating various working widths. The tiller is designed to meet safety and quality requisites as per Directive 2006/42/CE and harmonized standards like UNI EN ISO 4254-1:2010.

Function Description:

The CS Tiller is specifically designed for agricultural use, with the sole purpose of loosening, turning, and oxygenating the land to prepare it for sowing. It is constructed to be combined with tractors of adequate size and weight, equipped with a hydraulic lift, a universal three-point coupling, and a rear power take-off (PTO) for operation via a PTO drive shaft coupling. The machine is intended for use in open fields, on non-friable, not excessively stony land, with a maximum slope of 3°, and in temperatures ranging from 0°C to 50°C. Improper use, such as coupling to unsuitable power/weight vehicles, using an unsuitable PTO drive shaft, working in reverse, or operating on slopes greater than 3°, is strictly prohibited.

Important Technical Specifications:

The manual provides a table of technical specifications for different models (CS/085 to CS/185). Key specifications include:

  • Overall width (A): Ranges from 990 mm (CS/085) to 1980 mm (CS/185).
  • Working width (B): Ranges from 850 mm (CS/085) to 1850 mm (CS/185).
  • Height (C): 870 mm for all models.
  • Side clearance (D): 715 mm for all models.
  • Work depth: 200 mm for all models.
  • Weight (standard): Ranges from 190 kg (CS/085) to 298 kg (CS/185).
  • Rotor pipe diameter: 76 mm.
  • Rotor pipe thickness: 8 mm.
  • Rotor work diameter: 420 mm.
  • Number of rotor revolutions: 263 rpm.
  • Number of hoes: Varies by model, e.g., CS/085 has 16 (4 hoes/flange) or 24 (6 hoes/flange), while CS/185 has 36 (4 hoes/flange) or 54 (6 hoes/flange).
  • Tractor power min - max: CV 30-50.
  • Tractor hitch category: 1st.
  • PTO speed: 540 rpm.
  • Sound level (no-load detection): Acoustic pressure level 87.2 dB, Sound power level 99.8 dB.

Usage Features:

The tiller is operated by a single person driving the tractor. Before use, the operator must read and understand the manual, be properly trained, and possess a driving license. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves, accident-prevention shoes, protective goggles, and overalls are mandatory. During operation, the machine can eject material at high speed, so a safe distance must be maintained. The PTO drive shaft must be correctly coupled, ensuring proper overlap and clearance of plastic protections. The stability of the tractor-tiller complex must be checked, ensuring the front axle carries at least 20% of the unit's weight. Working height can be adjusted by altering the lateral skids. Chain tension of the drive chain can also be adjusted. The recommended maximum operating speed is 6 km/h, and it should be reduced in hard or stony soil. For temporary stops, the PTO rotation is deactivated. For day-end stops, the parking brake is engaged, the engine is turned off, the key is removed, and the tiller is cleaned and inspected.

Maintenance Features:

Routine maintenance is crucial for the tiller's longevity and safe operation.

  • Clutch Adjustment: The clutch is factory-calibrated at 900Nm. If it triggers too frequently, calibration can be increased by screwing the spring tightening nuts by 1/3 of a turn (approx. 160 Nm increase). For long storage, it's advisable to unscrew the nuts to prevent disc sticking, then restore original calibration upon reuse.
  • Oil Check and Replacement (Transmission Assembly):
    • Check: Every 50 hours, check the oil level using the dipstick on the filler cap "A".
    • Replacement: First replacement after 50 hours, then every 500 hours. Involves draining old oil from cap "B" (approx. 2 litres) and refilling with AGIP-ENI BLASIA 150 oil (approx. 1 litre) through cap "A".
  • Oil Check and Replacement (Lateral Drive Sump):
    • Check: Every 50 hours, check the oil level through the window of cap "C".
    • Replacement: First replacement after 50 hours, then every 500 hours. Involves suctioning old oil from cap "D" and refilling with AGIP-ENI BLASIA 150 oil (approx. 1.75 litres) until visible in the window of cap "C".
  • Greasing:
    • Rotor Lateral Support: Every 8 working hours, grease the point "E" on the right side plate using AGIP GREASE MU EP 2.
    • General greasing of all mechanical parts and fastening pins is recommended for long downtime periods.
  • Hoe Replacement:
    • Visual Check: Every 50 hours, inspect hoes for wear. Replace when power consumption increases or blade size significantly reduces.
    • Individual Hoe Replacement: Requires lifting the tiller on supports, unscrewing bolts, replacing the hoe, and tightening flange bolts to specified torques (refer to section 14.1).
    • All Hoes Replacement: Similar to individual replacement, but done one flange at a time.
  • Cleaning: After each work day, wash the tiller with a pressure washer, focusing on the chassis, hoes, mast, rear hood, and rotor. Dry with compressed air and apply lubricant to non-coated metal parts to prevent oxidation.
  • Storage and Wintering: For long periods of inactivity, store indoors on a flat, compact surface. Clean the machine, free the rotor and tools from residues, perform a visual inspection for damage, ensure safety pictograms are intact, and lubricate all mechanical parts. If fitted with a disc clutch, unscrew springs to prevent sticking.
  • Scrapping: Dispose of the machine at suitable waste disposal sites, separating plastic/rubber parts and recovering waste oils according to regulations.
