compromisesduringthedesignofthe
ST90.Ourgoalwassimplytomakethe
ultimatehighperformanceshnding
sonar.WiththeSimradST90,weuse
lowerfrequenciesthantheSX90and
SU90sonars.Inordertoachievethis,
acompletelynewtransducerhasbeen
designed.Eachelementislargerthanthe
previousSX90andSU90elements,but
thenumberofelementsisthesameastheSU90.Thisallowsforthesamenarrowbeam,
andultimatelyalongerrange.TheST90hasbeendesignedtosearchwithverylongranges
inallweatherandseaconditions.Whetheritisheavyweather,hardbottom,openwaters,
weaktargets-allechoesarehandledbytheST90duetothefullystabilizedandverynarrow
beamscombinedwiththecuttingedgesignalprocessing.
