Usage Features

- Front Panel Controls: Includes buttons for TAPE, CD, TUNING, MD/VIDEO, DSG, STANDBY, and a VOLUME knob. Specific buttons for TAPE (play, stop, fast forward, rewind, record), CD (eject, play, pause, skip, repeat, play mode), and TUNING (plus/minus, mode) are present.
- Rear Panel Connections: Provides terminals for AM and FM antennas, SPEAKER terminals, LINE OUT, MD IN, VIDEO IN, and a CD DIGITAL OUT OPTICAL connector.

Maintenance Features

- Safety-Related Components: Components marked with a triangle (▲) or dotted line with a triangle are critical for safe operation and must be replaced with specified Sony parts.
- Optical Pick-Up Block Handling:
- Requires caution due to potential electrostatic breakdown of the laser diode.
- The flexible board is delicate and must be handled with care.
- Laser Diode Emission Check: Observe from more than 30 cm away from the objective lens to avoid hazardous radiation exposure. The appliance is classified as a CLASS 1 LASER product.
- Chip Component Replacement:
- Disconnected chip components should not be reused.
- Tantalum capacitors can be damaged by heat on the minus side.
- Flexible Circuit Board Repairing:
- Soldering iron temperature should be around 270 °C.
- Avoid touching the soldering iron on the same conductor more than three times.
- Do not apply force on the conductor during soldering or unsoldering.
- AC Leakage Check: After repairs, perform an AC leakage check on all exposed metal parts to ensure safety. The leakage current must not exceed 0.5 mA (500 microamperes).

- Deck Section: Includes procedures for demagnetizing the record/playback head, checking playback level, REC level confirmation, REC bias confirmation, and tape speed adjustment.
- Adjustment Location: Specific adjustment points on the MAIN board are identified for playback level, REC level, and REC bias. The tape speed adjustment is located on the loading motor in the mechanism deck.
