What to do if my Sulzer Paint Sprayer is backfiring?
    • J
      Jaclyn LambAug 5, 2025
If your Sulzer Paint Sprayer experiences flashback or backfire, several issues could be the cause. It could be due to a leak at the wire nozzle or siphon plug o-rings, a worn nozzle, dirt in the nozzle jets, oversized or ragged jets, plugged siphon plug bleeder holes, or a clogged air cap. The suggested solution for all these causes is to replace the damaged components.

Why is the wire sticking on my Sulzer 16E?

If you're experiencing sticking wire with your Sulzer Paint Sprayer, here's what might be happening. It could be due to loading of soft wire, in which case you should select non-loading hardware. Another cause could be kinked or bent wire; to fix this, place the wire control unit so the wire feeds straight to the gun and avoid overtightening the brake on the wire control unit. Also, metal shavings in the nozzle can cause sticking; these can usually be removed by twisting and forcing the wire through from the back with pliers.

How to troubleshoot difficult lighting with Sulzer Paint Sprayer?

Difficult lighting with your Sulzer Paint Sprayer can stem from a few causes. The nozzle and/or siphon plug might be damaged or dirty; ensure they are clean and undamaged. A damaged or loaded air cap could also be the culprit; turn off fuel and oxygen tanks, purge the system, screw out the regulator handles, disconnect the hoses, inspect for obstructions, and blow out the hoses before reconnecting. If the gun has been idle or the valve has just been lubricated, work the valve on and off a few times with gases and air turned on to blow out any excess valve lubricant.
