Exhaust Pipe Bolt and Muffler Bolt Inspection

Tighten exhaust pipe bolts, muffler bolt and nut
Initially at 200 km (100 miles, 1 month) and every 1
000 km (600 miles, 3 months) thereafter
Check the exhaust pipe bolts, muffler bolts and nuts to
the specified torque. Refer to “Muffler / Exhaust Pipe
Removal and Installation in Section 1K (Page 1K-2)”.
Tightening torque
Exhaust pipe nut (a): 18 N·m (1.8 kgf-m, 13.0 lb-ft)
Exhaust pipe mounting bolt (b): 23 N·m (2.3 kgf-m,
16.5 lb-ft)
Muffler connecting bolt (c): 23 N·m (2.3 kgf-m, 16.5
lb-ft)
Muffler mounting bolt (d): 23 N·m (2.3 kgf-m, 16.5
lb-ft)
Valve Clearance Inspection and Adjustment

Inspect valve clearance
Initially at 200 km (100 miles, 1 month) and every 2
000 km (1 200 miles, 6 months) thereafter
Inspection
Excessive valve clearance results in valve noise and
insufficient valve clearance results in valve damage and
reduced power. Check the intake and exhaust valve
clearances at the distances indicated above and adjust
the valve clearances to specification, if necessary.
1) Remove the fuel tank. Refer to “Fuel Tank Removal
and Installation in Section 1G (Page 1G-13)”.
2) Remove the engine mounting upper bracket (1) and
ignition coil (2).
3) Remove the TDC plug (3).
4) Remove the spark plug. Refer to “Spark Plug
Replacement (Page 0B-5)”.
NOTE
Valve clearance is to be checked when the
engine is cold. The intake and exhaust valves
must be checked and adjusted when the
piston is at Top-Dead-Center (TDC) of the
compression stroke.
