Command Reference
Insert
(I)

Inserts
lines of
text
immediately before
the
specified line. Also,
when you create a new file, you
must
enter
the
I command to
begin
writing
text.
Text begins
with
Line
1.
Successive line numbers
appear
auto-
matically each
time
you press I
ENTER
I.
EDLIN
remains
in
the
Insert
mode
until
you type I
CTRL
I
en
The
line immediately following
the
insertion becomes
the
current
line
and
EDLIN automatically increments all line
numbers
that
fol-
low
the
insertion
as
necessary.
Notes
If
you
use
a period
(.)
to specify
the
line-or
if
you omit
the
line
parameter-EDLIN
uses
the
current
line.
If
you
use
a pound
sign
(#)
to specify
the
line, or
if
the
line
you specify is any number
larger
than
the
number of
the
last
line-EDLIN
appends
the
lines to
the
end of
the
file.
In
this
case,
the
last
line
inserted
becomes
the
current
line.
