Devicedriversareprogramsthatcontaininstructionsfortheoperatingsystemabouthowtooperateor
“drive”acertainpieceofhardware.Eachhardwarecomponentonyourcomputerhasitsownspecific
driver.Ifyouaddacomponent,theoperatingsystemmustbeinstructedonhowtooperatethatpieceof
hardware.Afteryouinstallthedriver,theoperatingsystemcanrecognizethehardwarecomponentand
understandhowtouseit.
Note:Becausedriversareprograms,likeanyotherfileonyourcomputer,theyaresusceptibletocorruption
andmightnotperformproperlyifcorruptionoccurs.
Itisnotalwaysnecessarytodownloadthelatestdrivers.However,youshoulddownloadthelatestdriverfor
acomponentwhenyounoticepoorperformancefromthatcomponentorwhenyouaddedacomponent.

YoucandownloadandinstallupdateddevicedriversfromtheLenovoSupportWebsitebydoingthe

installnecessarysoftware.

ThesystemupdatefunctionofLenovoCompanionhelpsyoukeepthesoftwareonyourcomputer
up-to-date.UpdatepackagesarestoredonLenovoserversandcanbedownloadedfromtheLenovo
SupportWebsite.Updatepackagescancontainapplications,devicedrivers,UEFIBIOSflashes,orsoftware
updates.WhenLenovoCompanionconnectstotheLenovoSupportWebsite,theprogramautomatically
recognizesthefollowinginformationanddetermineswhatupdatesareavailableforyourcomputer:
•Machinetypeandmodelofyourcomputer
•Installedoperatingsystem
•Languageoftheoperatingsystem
LenovoCompanionthendisplaysalistofupdatepackagesandcategorizeseachupdateascritical,
recommended,oroptionaltohelpyouunderstandtheimportance.Youhavecompletecontrolofwhich
updatestodownloadandinstall.Afteryouselecttheupdatepackagesyouwant,LenovoCompanion
automaticallydownloadsandinstallstheupdates.
LenovoCompanionispreinstalledonyourcomputerandisreadytorun.Theonlyprerequisiteisanactive
Internetconnection.Youcanstarttheprogrammanually,oryoucanusetheschedulefeaturetoenable
theprogramtosearchforupdatesautomaticallyatspecifiedintervals.Youalsocanpredefinescheduled
updatestosearchbythecriticalseveritylevelsothelistyouchoosefromcontainsonlythoseupdate
