Sleepandhibernationproblems
Problem:Thecomputerenterssleepmodeunexpectedly.
Solution:Ifthemicroprocessoroverheats,thecomputerautomaticallyenterssleepmodetoallowthe
computertocoolandtoprotectthemicroprocessorandotherinternalcomponents.Checkthesettings
forsleepmode.
Problem:Thecomputerenterssleepmodeimmediatelyafterthepower-onself-test.
Solution:Ensurethat:
Thebatteryischarged.
Theoperatingtemperatureiswithintheacceptablerange.See“Operatingenvironment”onpage10

Iftheproblempersists,havethecomputerserviced.
Problem:Acriticallow-batteryerroroccurs,andthecomputerimmediatelyturnsoff.
Solution:Thebatterypowerisgettinglow.Plugtheacpoweradapterintoanelectricaloutletandthen
intothecomputer.Alternatively,replacethebatterywithachargedone.
Problem:ThecomputerdisplayremainsblankafteryoupressFntoresumefromsleepmode.
Solution:Checkwhetheranexternalmonitorwasdisconnectedorturnedoffwhilethecomputerwasin
sleepmode.Ifyoudisconnectedorturnedofftheexternalmonitor,connectitorturnitonbeforeresuming
thecomputerfromsleepmode.Whenresumingthecomputerfromsleepmodewithoutattachingthe
externalmonitororturningiton,andthecomputerdisplayremainsblank,pressthedisplay-mode
switchingkey
tobringupthecomputerdisplay.
Problem:Thecomputerdoesnotresumefromsleepmode,orthesystemstatusindicatorblinksslowly
andthecomputerdoesnotwork.
Solution:Ifthesystemdoesnotresumefromsleepmode,itmighthaveenteredsleeporhibernation
modeautomaticallybecausethebatteryisdepleted.Checkthesystemstatusindicator.
Ifthesystemstatusindicatorblinksslowly,yourcomputerisinsleepmode.Connecttheacpower
adaptertothecomputer;thenpressFn.
Ifthesystemstatusindicatorisoff,yourcomputerhasnopowerorisinhibernationmode.Connect
theacpoweradaptertothecomputer;thenpressthepowerbuttontoresumeoperation.
Ifthesystemstilldoesnotresumefromsleepmode,yoursystemmightstoprespondingandyoumight
notbeabletoturnoffthecomputer.Inthiscase,youmustresetthecomputer.Ifyouhavenotsavedyour
data,itmightbelost.Toresetthecomputer,pressandholdthepowerbuttonforfoursecondsormore.If
thesystemstilldoesnotrespond,removetheacpoweradapterandthebattery.
Problem:Yourcomputerdoesnotentersleeporhibernationmode.
Solution:Checkwhetheranyoptionhasbeenselectedtodisableyourcomputerfromenteringsleep
orhibernationmode.
Ifyourcomputertriestoentersleepmodebuttherequestisrejected,thedeviceattachedtotheUSB
connectormighthavebeendisabled.Ifthisoccurs,doahot-unplug-and-plugoperationfortheUSB
device.
Problem:Thebatterydischargesslightlywhilethecomputerisinhibernationmode.
Solution:Ifthewakeupfunctionisenabled,thecomputerconsumesasmallamountofpower.Thisisnot
