8. OPERATION
8.1 General Theory of Operation
TheTormachToolingSystemATCwillholduptotentoolsinasingletray.Addional“logical”traysarepermiedinthe
soware,sothat,forinstance,youcoulddedicateatraynumbertoaspecicjobthatyourunfrequently.Also,theATC
allowsmixingmanualandautomactoolchangeswithinthesamepartprogram.Ifyourprogramrequires11ormore
tools,theATCwillchangetoolsautomacallyforalltoolsinitstray,andpauseforamanualchangefortoolsthatarenot
assignedtothetray.Anytoolnumberbetween1and253maybeassignedtoaposioninthetooltray–youarenot
connedtousingtoolnumbers1-10.Thisisconvenientifyouhaveatoollibraryalreadysetupwithtoolnumbersand
heightsmeasuredinyourtoolosettable.Thereisnoneedtorememberwhichslotaparculartoolhasbeenassigned
to–simplycallthetoolnumberinGcodewithanM6commandandtheATCwillretrievetheappropriatetool.
OFF THE CONTROL COMPUTER. FAILURE TO SHUT MACH DOWN PROPERLY WILL RESULT IN
THE ATC NOT REMEMBERING TOOL LOCATIONS.
8.2 Loading/Unloading Tools
TherearetwowaystoloadandunloadthetooltrayinpreparaonformachiningusingtheATC.Inautomactoolload-
ing,theATCwillloadthetoolthatiscurrentlyinthespindleandstoreitinthenearestopentrayslot.Inmanualtool
loading,thetraywillslideinandthetraydoorwillopen,allowingtheoperatortomanuallyplacetoolsintothetray.The
followingseconsdetailthesetwomodesofoperaon.
