Understanding the Safety Interlock
System
T he safety interloc k system is designed to prev ent the
engine from star ting unless:
• Y ou are sitting on the seat.
• T he brak e pedal is de pressed.
• T he po w er tak e off (PTO) is off .
• T he h y dro control pedal is in the neutral position.
T he safety interloc k system is designed to stop the
engine if:
• Y ou rise from the seat when the brak e pedal is
released
• Y ou rise from the seat when the po w er tak e off
(PTO) is on.
T he safety interloc k system is designed to stop the
po w er tak e off (PTO) if:
Y ou shift into rev erse with the po w er tak e off
(PTO) eng ag ed.
Testing the Safety Interlock System
T est the safety interloc k system before y ou use the
mac hine eac h time . If the safety system does not
operate as described belo w , ha v e an A uthorized Ser vice
Dealer re pair the safety system immediately .
1. Set the parking brak e . Mo v e the po w er tak e off
(PTO) to the On position. No w tur n the ignition
k ey to star t while sitting on the seat; the engine
should not crank.
2. Push the po w er tak e off (PTO) to the off position
and release the parking brak e . No w tur n the
ignition k ey to the Star t position while sitting on
the seat; the engine should not crank.
3. Set the parking brak e and mo v e the po w er tak e
off (PTO) to the Off position. Rise from the seat
and tur n the ignition k ey to the Star t position; the
engine should not crank.
4. Set the parking brak e and mo v e the po w er tak e off
(PTO) to the Off position. W hile sitting in the
seat, star t the engine . W hile the engine is r unning,
release the parking brak e and rise slightly from the
seat; the engine should stop .
5. Set the parking brak e and mo v e the po w er tak e off
(PTO) to the Off position. W hile sitting in the seat,
star t the engine . W hile the engine is r unning, mo v e
the po w er tak e off (PTO) to the On position and
rise slightly from the seat; the engine should stop .
6. With the parking brak e released, tur n the ignition
k ey to the r un position without star ting the engine .
Pull the PTO switc h to on. Y ou should hear an
audible clic k indicating the PTO is acti v ated and
the PTO light will illuminate . Mo v e the foot
pedal to rev erse . Y ou should hear an audible clic k
indicating the PTO is deacti v ated and the PTO
light should tur n off .
7. With the parking brak e released, tur n the ignition
switc h to R UN without star ting the engine . Pull the
PTO switc h to on. T ur n the K eyChoice® k ey and
release . T he Operating-in-R ev erse w ar ning light
should illuminate . Mo v e the foot pedal to rev erse .
T he PTO and PTO light on the dash should
remain on. Push the PTO switc h to off . T he PTO
light and the Operating-in-R ev erse w ar ning light
should tur n off .
Setting the KeyChoice® Switch to
Operate in Reverse
An interloc k feature on the tractor prev ents the po w er
tak e off (PTO) from operating when bac king up . If
y ou shift into rev erse with the PTO eng ag ed (i.e .,
with mo w er blades or other attac hment r unning), the
PTO will diseng ag e . Do not mo w in rev erse unless
absolutely necessar y .
If y ou need to use the PTO while bac king up , y ou can
tur n off this interloc k feature using the K eyChoice®
switc h located near the seat brac k et ( Figure 18 ).
Y ou could back o v er a child or bystander while
the mo w er blade(s) or other attachment is
enga ged and cause serious injur y or death.
• Do not mo w in r ev er se unless a bsolutel y
necessar y .
• Do not inser t the K eyChoice® k ey unless it
is a bsolutel y necessar y .
• Al w ays look backw ard and do wn bef or e
backing up .
• Use the K eyChoice® s witch onl y if y ou ar e
cer tain no childr en or other bystander s will
enter the mo wing ar ea.
• Be v er y obser v ant after deacti v ating the
inter lock because the sound of the engine
may pr ev ent y ou fr om noticing that a child
or bystander has enter ed the w or k ar ea.
• Al w ays r emo v e both the ignition and
K eyChoice® k eys and put them in a
safe place out of the r each of childr en or
unauthoriz ed user s when lea ving the unit
unattended.
1. Eng ag e the PTO .
2. Inser t the K eyChoice® k ey into the switc h
( Figure 18 ).
