Hold alternator in position after proper belt tension
setting is achieved and tighten alternator and brace
bolts to secure adjustment.
To Replace Belt:
Open hood.
Loosen bolts securing brace to engine and
alternator to brace (Fig. 36).
Remove two capscrews holding the transmission
drive shaft coupler to the engine pulley (Fig. 37). Do not
remove the drive shaft from the transmission.
Move the drive shaft out of the way sot that the fan
belt can be removed and a new belt installed. Install the
new belt around the fan before positioning it around the
drive pulley.
Reinstall the drive shaft. Tension the new belt.
Close the hood.
Check the belt tension after one day's use.

To Check and Adjust Tension:
Open hood.
Loosen idler lever bolts (Fig. 37). Put 10 lb. of force
on the top of idler lever and tighten the bolts.
Close hood.

To replace belt:
Open hood. Loosen two flange nuts securing idler
pulley lever and move pulley away from belt (Fig. 37).
Disconnect the transmission drive shaft assembly
from the engine or crankshaft pulley.
Remove the belt form the top and bottom pulleys.
Install new belt and reconnect the transmission
drive shaft assembly to the engine crankshaft pulley.
Adjust belt tension; refer to: To Check and Adjust
Tension.
Close the hood.
$( Check fan belt tension after first day of operation.
Readjust tension, if necessary. Follow regular
maintenance check procedures thereafter.
To Check Tension:
Turn engine off and remove the ignition key. Set the
parking brake. Raise the engine hood and allow the
engine to cool.
Loosen the tensioning rod jam nut (Fig. 38).
Use a 1/2" wrench to tighten or loosen the belt
tensioning spring (Fig. 38). Adjust spring to a length of
1Ć1/2" (38 mm).
Tighten jam nut.
To Replace Belt:
Turn off the engine and remove the ignition key. Set
the parking brake. Raise the hood and allow the engine
to cool.
Loosen the tensioning rod jam nut (Fig. 38).
Using a 1/2" wrench, loosen the belt tensioning
spring (Fig. 38) all the way.

Rotate PTO pulley toward the engine and remove
the belt (Fig. 39).
Install the new PTO belt and re-tension the pulley
spring to 1Ć1/2" (38 mm) (Fig. 38).
Tighten the jam nut (Fig. 38) and close the hood.
