CARBURETOR
Preliminary Check
The primer start carburetor used in E En
g
ines has an
all Minlon housin
g
with a fixed hi
g
h speed and pilot jet
and an adjustable float.
Perform the followin
g
preliminary checks to eliminate
some of the possibilities that may contribute to
carburetor malfunction:
1. I
g
nition system - ensure that all components are
adjusted to specs and are the correct components.
2. Fuel tank filter - must not be plu
gg
ed.
3. Fuel cap vent - hole must not be plu
gg
ed.
4. Air filter - must be clean and oiled (DuraForce
en
g
ines).
5. Crankcase seal - Crankcase seals must be
installed properly and in
g
ood condition; torque
value on the bolts must be correct.
6. Carburetor flan
g
e
g
askets and heat shield - must
be installed correctly.
7. Exhaust ports - must not be restricted.
8. Fuel - mixture must be fresh. As
g
asoline a
g
es, it
becomes more difficult to i
g
nite.
9. Governor air vane - must move freely.
Removal of DuraForce Carburetor
1. Disconnect spark plu
g
wire. We stron
g
ly
recommend cleanin
g
the exterior of the carburetor
before removal from the machine. This reduces
the chance that dirt can
g
et into the carburetor and
will extend the life of the solvent in your cleanin
g
tank.
2. Remove fuel line and drain; remove the fuel tank.
On snowthrowers, it will be necessary to remove
the lower shroud to access the carburetor and fuel
line.
3. Open and remove air cleaner cover and air filter
element (mower only). (See Fi
g
ure 17.)
4. Detach carburetor from en
g
ine by removin
g
two

screws. Discard the two smaller
carburetor
g
askets on either side of the carburetor
shield. Keep the heat shield for later installation.
