Starter Disassembly
1. Remove the pinion retainin
clip by applyin
constant pressure towards the end of the shaft on
one end of the clip and workin
around the rest of
the clip. Always replace clip with a new one.
2. Slide the stop washer, pinion sprin
, and pinion off
the shaft.
3. Remove the two housin
bolts and separate the
ends from the body. Pay close attention as thin
s
come apart easily when disassemblin
.
4. The serviceable items are shown. (See Fi
ure 94.)

5. The starter switch is also serviceable. (See Fi

95.) (Note: The wires can be removed by insertin
a small diameter drill bit into the holes to release
the jaws.)
