insidetheprimaryairltertopreventdislodged
dustandotheritemsfromenteringtheenginewhile
changingthemainelement.
Replacethesafetylter;nevercleanit.
Important:Neverattempttocleanthesafety
lter.Ifthesafetylterisdirty,thentheprimary
lterisdamaged.Replacebothlters.

•Alternateoil:SAE10W-30or5W-30(all
temperatures)

viscositygrades.Seethepartscatalogforpart
numbers.
CheckingtheEngine-OilLevel
ServiceInterval:Beforeeachuseordaily
Important:Checktheengineoildaily.Ifthe
engine-oillevelisabovethefullmarkonthe
dipstick,theengineoilmaybedilutedwithfuel.
Iftheengineoillevelisabovethefullmark,
changetheengineoil.
Thebesttimetochecktheengineoiliswhenthe
engineiscoolbeforeithasbeenstartedfortheday.
Ifithasalreadybeenrun,allowtheoiltodrainback
downtothesumpforatleast10minutesbefore
checking.IftheoillevelisatorbelowtheAddmark
onthedipstick,addoiltobringtheoilleveltotheFull
mark.Donotoverlltheenginewithoil.
Important:Keeptheengineoillevelbetweenthe
upperandlowerlimitsontheoilgauge;theengine
mayfailifyourunitwithtoomuchortoolittleoil.
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,lowerthe
cuttingunits,shutofftheengine,engagethe
parkingbrake,andremovethekey.
2.Unlocktheengine-coverlatchesandopenthe
enginecover.
3.Removethedipstick,wipeitclean,installthe
dipstickintothetube,andpullitoutagain.The
oillevelshouldbebetweentheFULLandADD
marks(Figure54).
