OPERATION (cont'd)
Switch leads are connected to the primary side
of the coil and to the ground. When the switch
is closed, coil is grounded. This action prevents
the coil from producing the high voltage
necessary to generate spark. When the switch
is open, the ignition coil produces spark.
Stopping the engine and blade is accomplished
by means
of
a brake that is applied to the
bottom of the flywheel. The brake spring is in the
"braked" position when the blade control bail is
in the "at rest" position. When the blade control
bail is raised to the mower handle, the brake is
retracted from the underside of the flywheel to
allow the engine to turn freely. The ignition
system will produce a spark when the starter
rope is pulled.
