Fitting the towing eye tra-
sera
—
The steering column lock cannot be released.
—
It cannot be guaranteed that the wheels will
turn smoothly or that the steering will function
after an accident.
If it is not possible to tow the vehicle on its wheels
for any of the above-mentioned reasons, call in
qualified personnel and, if necessary, have the
vehicle transported without the wheels touching
the road.

Secure the tow rope or tow bar only at the points
provided for this purpose:
—
Towing eye
Previous
steps
—
Make sure that the tow rope is not twisted.
Otherwise, the towing eye could untwist during
towing.
—
Switch on the ignition and switch on the
emergency flashers of both vehicles. If
necessary, observe any other regulations that
may be applicable.
—
Observe the towing instructions in the operating
instructions of the other vehicle lo.
Towing vehicle (front)
—
Do not actually start to drive until the cable has
been tightened.
—
Accelerate with special care.
—
Avoid braking and sudden manoeuvres.
—
Do not exceed the technically permissible
maximum towable mass of the vehicle.
Towed vehicle (rear)
—
Make sure that the ignition is switched on so
that the steering wheel does not lock and so
that you can use the direction indicators and
windscreen wipers if necessary.
—
Release the electronic parking brake.
—
The brake booster and power steering only work
when the engine is running. Otherwise, the
brake pedal must be depressed considerably
harder and more force is required to turn the
steering wheel.
—
Make sure that the tow rope is always taut.
—
Select position N on the selector lever.
The vehicle may only be towed if the 12-volt
battery is sufficiently charged and the electronic
parking brake and steering column lock can be
switched off. If the vehicle should lose power or if
there is a malfunction in the electrical system, the
engine must be started with the starting aid in
order to switch off the electronic parking brake and
the steering column lock.
