Fitting the towing eye of the
towing
bracket
Fig. 142 On the right-hand side of the rear bumper:
Screw in the towing eye.
Depending on the country and equipment, the
mounting for the towing eye is located behind the
cover. Before towing, check whether there is a
threaded mounting for the towing eye. If this is not
the case, call in a specialist and have the vehicle
transported if necessary.
The towing eye must always be carried in the
vehicle.

Mounting the rear towing eye

Remove the towing eye of the on-board tools
from the luggage compartment → page 189.

Press the side of the cover in the direction of the
arrow to remove it → fig. 141.
—
Remove the cover and leave it hanging on the
vehicle.

Screw the towing eye into the housing by turning
it as far as possible in the direction of the
arrow.
→ fig. 142 , → . Use a suitable object with
which the towing eye can be screwed completely
and securely into its housing.

After towing, unscrew the eyebolt in the
opposite direction to the arrow.

Place the cover in the corresponding recess
and press it inwards until it clicks into place.

Clean the towing eye if necessary and put it back
in the luggage compartment with the other on-
board tools.

The towing eye must always be screwed
completely and securely into the towing bracket.
The Otherwise it could come out of the
housing during towing or towing.
