Troubleshooting
Starter motor turns over slowly
CAUSE
● Discharged batteries
● Poor contact, electrical leads
REMEDY
Put the reverse gear control lever into neutral
Calibrate controls as per instructions on pages 17–
18
Charge/replace the batteries (or connect up auxiliary
batteries as shown on page 65)
Switch on the main switches
Reset the fuse by pressing in the button.
Rectify any open-circuits/loose connections. Check
for oxidation on the contacts. If required, clean them
and spray with damp-inhibitor spray. See the wiring
diagrams on pages 70–83.
Replace key switch
Replace start relay (or swap temporarily with stop re-
lay*)
Replace main relay (or swap temporarily with stop
relay)
Contact authorized service personnel
Contact authorized service personnel. Do not try to
start the engine if you think there is water in it
REMEDY
Charge/replace the batteries (or connect up auxiliary
batteries as shown on page 65)
Rectify any loose connections. Check for oxidation
on the contacts. If required, clean them and spray
connections with damp-inhibitor spray.
1. Engine does not start
Starter motor does not turn engine over
CAUSE
● The reverse gear is not disengaged (applies to
control with neutral position switch)
● TAMD72P: The controls have not been calibrated
● Discharged batteries
● Main switches off
● One of the semi-automatic fuses in the junction
box has tripped (pos. 6 in the engine wiring dia-
gram page 71, pos. 4 in diagram on page 73, or
pos. 9 in diagrams on pages 75, 77, 79 and 81)
● Poor contact/break, electrical leads
● Faulty key switch
● Faulty start relay
● TAMD72P: Faulty main relay
● Faulty starter motor/solenoid (control solenoid)
● Water in the engine
* Note: TAMD63 has no stop relay.
