Chapter 6: Systems Informaon
6.1 Overview
This chapter will provide you with basic informaon for all the systems on your boat. Understanding this
informaon is imperave, as it directly contributes to the safety and enjoyment of your trips on the water. If
you need further informaon on any of these systems talk with your dealer.
6.2 Fueling Guidelines
Study the following guidelines thoroughly, and consult your dealer if you have quesons. Be sure to read the
Yamaha Owner’s Manual regarding the type and grade of fuel to use for your engines.
6.2.1 Before Fueling
Shut down the engines and turn o all electrical devices including the baeries.
Close all hatches, port lights, and doors to prevent accumulaon of fuel vapors.
Exnguish cigarees or other lighted materials.
Keep a properly charged and correctly rated re exnguisher nearby.
6.2.2 During Fueling
Use common sense and obey all safety regulaons related to fuel handling.
Avoid stac sparks by maintaining contact between the fuel nozzle and fuel ll.
6.2.3 Aer Fueling
Secure the fuel cap and inspect for leaks.
Clean up any spilled fuel and dispose of the cleaning material accordingly. Do not store
fuel-soaked ma terial on your boat.
Open all hatches, port lights, and doors to allow for venlaon.
Check for fuel vapors using a “sni test” and do not turn on electrical devices, including
baeries, unl you are certain the fumes have dissipated.
!!! WARNING
Avoid methanol or other alcohol based fuels or addives which can deteriorate fuel hoses. Alco hol-
based fuels also absorb water which can lead to engine damage.
!!! DANGER
Follow all safety guidelines while fueling. Leaking or spilled fuel is an explosion hazard. Regular
checks of the fuel system are needed to protect you and the vessel.
!!! DANGER
Stac electricity can ignite gasoline vapors causing serious injury, death and /or destrucon
of property.
