6.4 Ethanol-blended Fuel
Ethanol is an oxygenated hydrocarbon compound that has a high octane rang, therefore it is useful in
increasing the octane level of unleaded gasoline.
6.4.1 Addives
Phase separaon occurs when water enters a tank that contains an ethanol / gasoline blended fuel. When
gasoline becomes saturated, a mixture of ethanol and water, known as phase separaon, can form in the
tank, in the form of two layers: an upper ethanol-decit gasoline layer and a lower ethanol-rich water layer.
This may cause knocking in an engine running on the gasoline layer, while the engine will not run at all on
the ethanol / water layer.
While it is impossible to absolutely guarantee avoidance of phase separaon, there are a few preventave
steps that could help. Installing a 10-micron fuel / water separang lter in the fuel line between your fuel
tank and your outboard lters the gas and allows any water (which is heavier than gas) to safely sink to the
boom of the lter and out of the fuel.
Adding a quality marine-specic non-alcohol-based fuel stabilizer and condioner (like Yamalube
®
Fuel
Stabilizer & Condioner PLUS) to each tank can also help. Before proceeding with any steps, please rst
consult with an authorized servicer of your brand of outboard.
If phase separaon does occur, your only remedy is to drain your fuel tanks, clean and dry the tank
completely and rell with fresh fuel.
6.5 Electrical System
The electrical system on your catamaran consists of three major components: the baery wiring system, the
component wiring system with circuit protecon, and accessories. It is important that you understand the principles
of the electrical system, so that you can protect the components and troubleshoot any problems you experience.
6.6 Baery System
Your World Cat is equipped with three standard baeries. Two addional baeries are oponal, depending
on accessories. Two of the baeries are Type 27 “cranking baeries”; the third is a Type 31 “house” baery.
The two cranking baeries each control one engine and provide the inial current to start the engines. The
house baery controls all other electrical components on the boat. The two oponal baeries are Type 31
house baeries and control only those opons.
To help maintain your baeries, a management system is installed on your boat, beneath the helm seat.
This system, controlled by a panel similar to the one shown below, enables you to engage or disengage
the baeries, distribute electrical current, and parallel baeries in the event of a failure. Chapter 10 of this
manual will provide details regarding the locaon and wiring of your baeries and management panel.
6.6.1 Baery Distribuon
The distribuon panel controls the ow of current from the baeries to the
engines and on-board funcons through three main switches. Each switch is red
and labeled ‘Port Start’, ‘STBD Start’, and ‘House’.There are two yellow parallel
switches labeled ‘Emerg Parallel’.The house components are protected by an
80 amp breaker labeled ‘DC Main 1’. When leaving the boat, all switches should
be turned to the “OFF” posion, while the DC Main breaker can remain on.
NOTICE
The use of improper gasoline or addives can damage your fuel system and is considered mis-use of
the system. Damage caused by improper gasoline or addives WILL NOT be covered under warranty.
