General Operating and Maintenance Information
2 - 2
Fuel Recommendation
This engine is designed to operate on unleaded 87 or 89 octane gasoline. The engine, with
the proper fuel equipment, can also be operated on dry fuel such as LPG and NG.
NOTE: It is highly recommended that a fuel stabilizer additive be used for any length of
storage. It is imperative in any application where the fuel will not be consumed within
thirty days.
LPG fuel specications must meet or exceed EN 589 (European) HD-5 (Canada/USA).
NG fuel specication must meet or exceed 38.7 MJ/m
3
(European) 39.0 MJ/m
3
(Canada/
USA) (1050BTU/ft
3
).
CAUTION!
Use of fuels rated lower than the grades specied
above may cause persistent, heavy spark knock, which
can lead to engine damage. If your engine knocks
heavily when using unleaded gasoline with 87 octane
or higher, or if you hear continuous spark knock while
maintaining constant operating speeds, consult your
distributor or another qualied technician.
Your efforts spent in properly maintaining the ice resurfacer and its various components
will be well repaid by longer wear and good service.
Starting the Engine
To start the engine:
Make sure the acceleration foot pedal is in the Neutral position.
Make sure the auger control levers are Off/Neutral.
Turn ignition key to start.
The engine will start and run at approximately 1150 RPM. After 30 seconds,
raise the engine speed to 1500 RPM by using the throttle rocker switch located
on the dash (see page 6.2). This warm up period will allow the engine and
catalytic convertor to achieve the correct operating temperatures. After the
correct warm up period the engine will be operating in “closed loop” and
the catalytic convertor will be more efcient in reducing engine exhaust
emissions. Be sure that the engine emissions are exhausted to the outside,
or the room is properly ventilated.
Be sure snow tank is completely down and the conditioner is raised.
