8.5.1 Layout and Design Information
The following picture shows a typical PROFIBUS PA-Network.
A shielded twisted cable is recommended (based on IEC 61158-2, Type A or B is preferred).
Additional detailed layout and design information may be found in the Brochure "PROFIBUS - Solutions from
ABB" (No.30/FB-10). Accessories such as splitters, connectors and cables may be found in List Sheet 10/
63-6.44. Additional information is available on the PROFIBUS Organization home web page at http://
www.profibus.com.
8.5.2 Setting the Bus-Address for PROFIBUS PA
If no customer requirements regarding the bus address were made when the order was placed, the
instrument was set at the factory to "126". The Address must be reset during start-up of the FSM 4000 to
a number in the valid range (0 - 125). An Address may only be used once in a segment.
The are three methods for setting the PA-Address:
• Hardware switches (in the converter)
• Bus communication
• Menu "Slave Address" (in submenu "Data Link")
There is a hardware switch in the converter. It is not visible from the outside. The switch settings can be read
in the menu “Data Link” or using the communication in the Transducer Block. Before opening the housing
cover the supply power must be turned off. To change the switch settings, loosen the screws on the housing
cover. The hardware switches are accessible when the housing cover is opened. See Fig. 20. After the
supply power is turned on again the hardware switch Address settings will be recognized by the computer.
Alternately, the Address can also be changed during normal operation using the menus accessed by
pressing the buttons on the display board of the converter.
The hardware switch setting has the highest priority. An Address set using the hardware switch cannot be
changed, either over the Bus or using the menu. If the switch address setting is not active, DIP-Switch
8=OFF, then the Address can be set over the Bus or the menu, but only if cyclic communication is not active.
