Maintenance Features

General Care:

  • Cleaning the Cabinet: The cabinet should be cleaned with a soft, dry cloth. If it is very dirty, a cloth dampened with a mild detergent can be used. Avoid using paint thinner or other chemical cleaners.
  • Cleaning the Disc: Discs should be wiped gently from the center to the edge with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using record cleaners, antistatic sprays, or chemical solvents.
  • Disc Handling: Always hold discs by the outer edge or center hole. Avoid touching the recorded surface. Do not glue any labels or stickers to discs. Store discs in their cases to prevent scratches and dust.

Condensation: If the player is moved from a cold to a warm environment, condensation may form on the laser pick-up lens. This can cause the player to malfunction. If condensation occurs, the player should be left unplugged for about one hour to allow the moisture to evaporate before operation.

Power Supply: The unit has a voltage selector on the rear panel, allowing it to be adjusted for different power voltages (110-120V or 220-240V) as required for various countries. This adjustment should only be performed by a qualified electrician.

Laser Safety: The AKAI CD-55 is a Class 1 laser product, meaning it emits invisible laser radiation. Users are warned against opening the cabinet or attempting to modify the product, as this could expose them to hazardous laser radiation. Servicing should only be performed by qualified personnel.

Battery Replacement (Remote Control): The remote control unit requires two R6 (AA) sized dry batteries. When replacing batteries, ensure correct polarity and use new batteries. Remove batteries if the remote control will not be used for a long period to prevent leakage.
