Instruments and wa rning / indicator lights
When the
-L warning light starts to flash, this can mean one of two
t hings : either the coolant
temperature is too high, or the coolant
level is too low=> page 32.
& WARNING
Alwa ys observe the w arning in => page 196 , "Engine compart -
ment " before opening th e engine hood and checking the engine
coolant level.
Never open the engine hood if you see or hear steam, or if you
see engine coolant dr ipping from the engine compartment . You
could burn yourself. Let the engine cool off fir st so that you cannot
hear or see any steam or engine coolant .

Mounting additional lights or accessories in front of the air inlets
red uces the cooling effect of the radiator . At high outside tempera -
tures or high engine load, the engine could overheat.
The front spoi ler has bee n designed to prope rly distribu te the
cooling air when the vehicle is moving. If the spoiler is damaged, this
could reduce the cooling effect and the eng ine could then overheat.
Ask your author ized Audi deale r for assistance .
Fuel gauge
The fue l gauge works only when the ignition is on .
When the need le reaches the red area, t he war ning light in the instru-

Never run the tank completely dry! An irregular s upply of fuel can
cause engine misfiring and fuel could enter into the exhaust system.
The cat alyt ic converter could the n overhea t and be damaged.
Speedometer with odometer
The speedometer shows you the vehicle speed, and the
odometer shows you how many miles (kilomete rs) you
have driven.

The odometer and tr ip odometer are located inside the speedometer.

Canada models - Kilometers
Lower odometer
The lower odometer shows the total number of miles (kilometers)
driven.
Upper odometer (trip odometer)
The upper odome t er shows t he total number of miles (kilometers)
driven since you last reset the odometer back to zero. You can use this
odometer when you want to keep track of how many m iles (kilome -
ters) you have driven for a sing le t rip or er rand. The last digit indicat es _,.
