5 MAINTENANCE
Check regularly the oil level in the reservoir. In the beginning
the level will go down a little, until the tail piece is filled
completely with oil. If necessary top up with gear oil type EP90
(Fig. 36).
Replace oil at least every two years. Check the quality of oil in
the tail piece each time the boat is brought out to dry.
• During the first maintenance on shore, tighten the bolts
that hold the tail piece to the motor flange with the torque
specified in the installation manual.
•
Keep the tail piece and the propeller clean, paint with an
anti fouling paint before every season.
• N.B. It’s not necessary to paint the zinc anode, the
oil seals and the propeller shaft.
•
In turn remove the propeller, the key and the V-Ring.
Clean the propeller shaft and grease the running surface
of the V-Ring with outboard gear grease. Fit a new V-
Ring. Put the key back in shaft and refit the propeller.
•
Check the cathodic protection and if necessary renew
the zinc anode.
•
Change the oil; this must be done at least every two to
four years.
•
Check the quality of oil in the tail piece each time the
boat is brought out to dry.
Changing the oil (Fig. 36).
• Remove the filler cap from the tank.
•
Remove the drain plug from the tail piece.
• Allow all the oil to drain out. Fill the tank with fresh oil
and refit the drain plug as soon as oil begins to run out.
• Fill up the tank to the correct level.
• Clean the propeller shaft, grease with ‘outboard gear
grease’ and refit the propeller on the shaft.
During the seasonal maint enance of the boat, and before
every season, control always that:
• The propeller is firmly t ight.
•
The holding bolts of the electric motor with the flange are
properly tight.
• The area where the bow thruster is located is clean and
dry; should water or humidity be present, identify the
source and eliminate.
• All the electrical connections are clean and properly
connected.
• Ensure that the batteries are in good condition in a way
that the bow thruster receives enough voltage. Old
batteries or defective cause loss in performance of the
bow thruster.
N.B. For battery maintenance is necessary to follow
the instructions supplied by the proper
manufacturer.
