2.4 ASSEMBLING THE TAIL PIECE AND THE MOTOR FLANGE
Mark the centre of the tunnel and the centre of the boat.
At the centre of the template (supplied) mark the centre of the
holes and re-check the dimensions. All the holes must be
aligned with precision to the dimensions of the tunnel, as the
tolerance between the tunnel and the propeller is very little
(Fig. 20).
No fibreglass work has t o be done in the area where the motor
flange will be located. The flange has to be assembled directly
on the tunnel; if the surface of the tunnel is not smooth, it has
to be smoothed out with sand paper until all the humps or the
non-uniform parts are removed, to render the surface perfectly
smooth.
Drill the principal hole and then the two screw holes and clean
properly.
Install one gasket between the tail piece and the thrust tunnel.
Apply a sealant (polyurethane or silicon) between the tail piece
and the gasket and position the tail piece into the hole in the
thrust tunnel. .*) e.g. Sikaflex
®
-240 o Sikaflex
®
-241 (Fig.21).
Grease the hol e of the intermediate flange and position this
flange. Check dimension `H`; it must be between 77 and
80mm (between 3.03” and 3.15”). (Fig. 22).
If the dimension `H` is less than 77mm (3.03”), fit an additional
gasket the thrust tunnel and the intermediate flange. Check
again dimension `H` (Fig. 23).
Apply a sealant between the gasket of the tail piece and the
wall of the thrust tunnel. Now fit the intermediate flange
permanently to the tail piece and grease the threads of the
bolts with outboard gear grease before inserting and tightening
them (Fig. 24). Tight to a torque of 17Nm/12.4 lb/ft.
Insert the hose pillar int o one of the threaded holes. Blank off
the other threaded hole by means of the blind plug supplied.
Apply a thread sealant when fitting the hose pillar and the blind
plug, but not excessively, so as to prevent the sealant from
getting into the tail piece itself.
If you wish, the tail piece may now be filled, as far as
practicable, with the gear oil. (Fig.25)
ATTENTION !
Control that there are no leaks immediately after putting the boat in water.
