1.3 About this manual
This manual describes the function, operation, and maintenance of the BD PrepMate™ Automated
Accessory. The BD PrepMate™ Automated Accessory is not a stand-alone system; it is a component
of the BD SurePath™ Liquid-based Pap Test and may be used with either the BD PrepStain™ Slide
Processor or the BD Totalys™ SlidePrep to prepare BD SurePath™ slides. Likewise, this manual is
not intended to be a stand-alone document; it is a component of the documentation for the BD
SurePath™ Liquid-based Pap Test, the BD PrepStain™ System, and the BD Totalys™ SlidePrep.
This manual should be kept with the BD PrepStain™ Slide Processor User’s Manual and the
BD Totalys™ SlidePrep Instrument User's Manual.
Other documentation required for proper PrepMate operation includes: Reagent Package Inserts-
These documents contain important information on specimen preparation and the use, storage,
performance, and limitation of reagents. A package insert is included with each reagent pack, and is
available upon request from BD.
